Smooth Sailing for Foxx
July 22, 2008
Virginia Foxx is destroying Roy Carter on the fundraising front. This could be embarassing for Carter if the hippies and PETA types don’t turn out in droves. Look on the bright side, at least John Grisham knows who he is. That’s a heck of a feather in his cap. I’m not Foxx’s biggest fan, but I do like her position on pork.
U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-Banner Elk, has raised more than $600,000 in her re-election bid for a third term and has a campaign war chest of nearly $1 million, according to her latest report filed with the Federal Election Commission.
Foxx, who represents North Carolina’s 5th District, has raised $641,710 and has $926,440 in cash on hand. She has spent $397,322, according to a report filed April 16. The two-term incumbent’s fundraising totals dwarf her Democrat challenger, Roy Carter, a political newcomer who has raised less than $100,000, according to the FEC.
Ok, Ok, so she’s got a substantial lead in fundraising. That doesn’t mean he’s done, right?
Carter, a career educator from Glendale Springs, has raised $98,963. However, Carter has spent $95,119 of that total, leaving him with just $3,842 in cash on hand, according to his June 30 FEC report. By contrast, Foxx has spent $397,322.
Stick a fork in him. In an area as hard to make Democratic inroads as the 5th district, he’s all but done. Unless App somehow kicks the hippy drum circle into high gear. Which isn’t an unknown phenomena, especially in the fall.
